Painting the Bird

Here are some  pictures of thePaint job, color scheme and decals.

9.15.2006:  Here is the nose art for the bird.  The B25 will officially be named "Precious Patty"
after my Wife.  And yes, that is the wife!  I am one lucky guy!
 

9.15.2006:  Here is the paint scheme for the big.  Traditional colors.
 

9.14.2006:  Painting started with the white and black
invasion stripes on the wings and fuselage. 
Next,  the yellow on the cowling was done
Here you can see the invasion stripes have been covered
and the grey bottom coating has been applied.
9.14.2006:  Here is a closer look at the engine nacele.
The inside of the nacele was fuel proofed before
applying the grey bottom.  The inside of the nacelle will
 be re-visited again for one more coat of green.

9.14.2006:  Closer view of the bottom of the
nose.  At this stage, all paints we are using are GLOSS.
This will provide a smooth surface for the decals.
9.15.2006.  Meet the "one and only" Jon Pryga. 
This guy is a master with a spray gun. 
Here Jon is applying the green to the top

9.15.2006:  A few more shots of Jon at work.  After
the Green paint is applied and dries, we will apply the
decals, then a few coats of clear, flat finish.
9.15.2006:  After the clear flat finish is completed,
Jon Pryga will apply his "magic touches" of adding dirt
and oil-staining.

10.30.2006  Final coats of paint were applied.
First was the flat clear over the decals.  Click
on the picture for a large image.
10.30.2006  Next, Jon added flat black paint to
simulate weathering, oil staining, and dirt

10.30.2006  The star decal over the white and
black striping had to be touched up to stop
the black stripes from showing through.

10.30.2006  Jon Pryga, the painter.  Click on the

9.19.2007  Jon Pryga to the rescue!  Here Jon has the bird
ready for the oil-staining and final clear coat. 
9.19.2007  As we don't have the decals from Cal-Grafx yet
we are going to leave the nose "as is" to continue on with
test flight two.
